The topmost layer of a Stearns & Foster® sleep set provides a supple yet breathable surface to sleep on. Damask and knit covers are imported from Belgium and are interwoven with rich fibers such as wool, silk, cashmere, and suri alpaca. And while you may not sleep directly on the bare mattress, these soft fibers add to the initial surface comfort of your mattress and to the elegance of your bed overall.

In the simplest terms, comfort layers are the many levels and types of materials that provide cushion between you and the supportive core. While other mattresses may contain mostly poly-foam or cotton batting, Stearns & Foster® mattresses use the finest materials to provide luxurious, long-lasting comfort. For added resilience and durability, all upholstery materials are tufted together to keep materials from shifting and impressions from forming.

Support layers form the core of each sleep set. They provide much of the unsurpassed strength, resilience, and durability of every Stearns & Foster mattress and work in conjunction with the comfort layers to help you fall asleep faster and wake up feeling refreshed and pain-free. Stearns & Foster® offers two types of supportive core systems: Legendary Innerspring and Luxury Latex - which features an innovative latex core.

Stearns & Foster® is one of the select few in the industry that still believes in the added resilience and durability of a complete sleep set. A boxspring acts as the foundation for any mattress, which is why Stearns & Foster only uses working (flexing) boxsprings that are constructed with durable, high-quality materials. A proper working boxspring can both enhance and extend the comfort life of the mattress.
